Clearwater sits in the North Thompson River valley, roughly halfway between Kamloops and Jasper, where the Trans-Canada gives way to Highway 5 and the landscape shifts into something wilder — dense conifer forest, glacier-fed rivers, and the eastern edge of Wells Gray Provincial Park not far up the road. It's genuine interior British Columbia, the kind of place where the mountains are always in frame and the air carries a cool sharpness even in July. Golf here exists on its own terms, well removed from the resort corridors of Whistler or the Okanagan.
Lacarya Golf Club serves a small but dedicated local golfing community in a region where the season is real and finite. A par 70 layout — shorter than a traditional par 72 — suggests a course that rewards accuracy and course management over raw distance, letting the natural setting do the heavy lifting where pure yardage doesn't.
For visiting golfers, Lacarya offers something genuinely uncommon: a round played in deep mountain-valley terrain, without the crowds or green fees of better-known destinations, in a corridor most travellers simply pass through on their way somewhere else.
