Few Scottish links carry Nairn Golf Club's particular combination of pedigree and place. Laid out along the southern shore of the Moray Firth, the Championship course dates to 1887, with early work attributed to Archie Simpson and later refinements by Old Tom Morris. It sits on a ribbon of linksland where the fairways run tight to the firth, and on a clear day the hills of the Black Isle rise across the water to the north — one of the more quietly dramatic backdrops in Scottish golf.
The course has earned its reputation at the highest level, having hosted the 1999 Walker Cup and serving as a qualifying venue for The Open Championship on multiple occasions. The front nine runs close to the shore with the prevailing wind a near-constant presence; the back nine turns inland through heather and gorse. Several of the par 3s are genuinely testing holes that linger in the memory.
Nairn itself is a small seaside town on the Highland coast, roughly 16 miles east of Inverness, with a sunny reputation by Scottish standards — locals will tell you it sits in a rain shadow. The club remains one of Scotland's finest traditional links experiences.
