Few golf destinations in the American West carry the drama of Bend, Oregon, where the high desert meets the eastern slopes of the Cascades. Broken Top Club takes its name from the jagged, glacier-scarred volcanic peak visible from much of the property — a constant, striking reminder of the raw geological forces that shaped this corner of central Oregon. Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish designed the course, and their fingerprints are unmistakable: bold shaping that works with the volcanic terrain, generous use of the native sage and lava outcroppings, and greens that reward precise approach play over brute force.
As a private club, Broken Top has long been among Bend's most coveted memberships, a reflection of the city's evolution from a timber town into one of the Pacific Northwest's most sought-after outdoor destinations. The course plays at elevation, which affects both carry distance and conditions — summers are sunny and relatively dry, with cool mornings that give way to ideal afternoon scoring weather.
What lingers after a round here isn't any single hole but the cumulative effect of the setting: ponderosa pines framing fairways, volcanic rock threading through the rough, and that broken summit watching from the ridgeline. It's a course that earns its name.
