Bolingbrook Golf Club stands as one of the more ambitious municipal golf projects Illinois has produced — a full-length, resort-quality layout owned and operated by the Village of Bolingbrook. Designed by Dick Nugent and opened in 1999, the course was built to a standard rarely seen in public-sector golf, with generous conditioning budgets and a clubhouse that punches well above its municipal weight. It has earned a loyal regional following and consistently ranks among the better public-access options in the Chicago suburbs.
The course plays through rolling terrain that makes the most of the Will County landscape — a part of greater Chicagoland where the flat prairie gives way to enough grade change to create interesting sight lines and strategic angles. Water comes into play on several holes, and the design rewards players who manage their ball position off the tee rather than simply overpowering the layout.
For southwest suburban golfers, Bolingbrook fills a specific and valuable niche: a genuinely aspirational test on public ground, where the experience feels closer to a private club outing than a typical municipal round.
