Few public courses along Colorado's Front Range can match Legacy Ridge's combination of genuine mountain scenery and thoughtful parkland design. The course sits in Westminster, a city that occupies a sweet spot between Denver's urban sprawl and the dramatic Rocky Mountain foothills, and on a clear day the views of the entire Front Range — from Pikes Peak in the south to Longs Peak to the north — are as distracting as any water hazard.
Legacy Ridge opened in 1996 and was designed by Arthur Hills, a Michigan-based architect known for routing courses that work with natural contours rather than against them. The layout moves through rolling terrain with mature trees defining fairways and enough elevation change to keep every club in the bag honest. It has long been regarded as one of the stronger municipal offerings in the Denver metro area, drawing a loyal following of locals who appreciate a genuine test over a purely recreational round.
Westminster's climate means a long golf season by Colorado standards, with mild autumns that often outlast expectations. The course rewards patience and course management — a fair but unforgiving kind of par 72 that tends to expose overambition.
