Smoke Rise Country Club occupies a slice of DeKalb County that sits in the shadow of Stone Mountain, the massive granite dome rising some 800 feet above the surrounding piedmont plain and one of Georgia's most recognizable landmarks. The terrain here is genuinely hilly — this isn't flat Coastal Plain golf — and the course works with the natural roll and elevation change that the foothills of the Blue Ridge provide before the land softens heading toward Atlanta.
Stone Mountain itself sits about 16 miles east of downtown Atlanta, and Smoke Rise is a private residential community that grew up around this club, giving it the character of a neighborhood anchor rather than a destination resort.
