Ellabell sits in Bryan County, roughly halfway between Savannah and the coastal marshes that define this stretch of lowcountry Georgia — a landscape of longleaf pine, scrub oak, and the kind of flat, sandy terrain that quietly suits golf. Black Creek Golf Club occupies this understated setting, a full 18-hole, par-72 layout that draws from the greater Savannah area's broader golfing community.
Savannah itself has a deep relationship with the game — it's a city that produced some of golf's most compelling characters and sits within easy reach of the Sea Island and Hilton Head resort corridors to the south. Black Creek exists on a different register than those destination properties, serving the everyday golfer in a county that has grown steadily as suburban Savannah has expanded westward along I-16.
The Georgia coastal plain doesn't offer dramatic elevation change, so courses in this region tend to live and die by their routing, tree character, and how well the design uses water. Without the mountains, interest has to come from somewhere else — and that challenge shapes every round.
