Fort Jackson sits on roughly 52,000 acres of piney South Carolina lowcountry just southeast of Columbia, and Old Hickory Golf Course has long served as the recreational anchor of one of the U.S. Army's largest and busiest training installations. The course takes its name from Andrew Jackson's famous nickname — fitting for a post that sits in the heart of a state Jackson himself called home. Playing golf here means sharing the landscape with the rhythms of military life, a backdrop that gives the round a distinct character you won't find at any civilian club.
The terrain is classic South Carolina Midlands: relatively flat, shaded by longleaf and loblolly pines, with the humidity and warm-season grasses that define golf throughout the Carolina interior. Bermuda fairways and bentgrass or overseeded greens (depending on the season) are typical of courses in this corridor, and the tree-lined layout rewards accuracy over raw power.
Access is generally limited to active-duty personnel, veterans, and their guests, which keeps Old Hickory a genuine military community asset rather than a public destination — a course built for the people who actually live and serve at Fort Jackson.
