Canal Flats sits at the southern end of Columbia Lake, where the Rocky Mountains and the Purcell Range face each other across one of the widest valley floors in British Columbia. It's remote country — small-town, timber-and-ranching country — and the golf here reflects that character entirely. Th'Flats is a community course in the truest sense, the kind of place where the pro shop runs on trust and everyone knows which cart has the bad steering.
At par 60, this is a short-course layout, almost certainly built around a series of par 3s and short par 4s that reward precision and local knowledge over raw power. That format suits the setting perfectly: you're playing to enjoy the valley, the mountain walls rising on both sides, the particular quality of light that hits the Columbia Trench on a clear morning. Bombers leave their egos at the gate.
The Columbia Valley has a modest but genuine golf culture — several courses dot the corridor between Radium and Cranbrook — and Th'Flats serves the community that anchor towns like Canal Flats depend on: accessible, unhurried, and entirely unpretentious.
