Aaretal Golf Club sits in the Bernese Mittelland, the broad agricultural plateau that stretches between the Jura hills to the north and the dramatic wall of the Alps to the south. Kiesen is a small village in the Aare valley — the same river that loops through Bern some 15 kilometers upstream — and the course takes its name from that valley landscape. Playing here means rolling farmland fairways, mature trees bordering the holes, and on clear days the kind of Alpine panorama that makes it genuinely difficult to keep your eyes on the ball.
At par 31 over 9 holes, Aaretal is a compact layout oriented toward accessibility rather than championship ambition — the kind of club where families, beginners, and returning golfers find a welcoming entry point into the Swiss golf scene without the formality or green fees of the country's grander establishments.
Switzerland's golf culture skews toward the serious end, with mountain resort courses and storied clubs commanding most of the attention, but the Mittelland has a quiet, community-rooted golf scene of its own. Aaretal fits that mold: an honest, unpretentious track where the setting does much of the heavy lifting.
