French Guiana's only 18-hole layout occupies genuinely unusual ground — Kourou sits roughly 5 degrees north of the equator, making Golf de l'Anse one of the most tropically situated courses in the Atlantic world. The town is best known globally as the home of Europe's primary spaceport, the Guiana Space Centre, and on a clear day the launch facilities are visible from parts of the property. Few courses anywhere can offer the backdrop of a rocket on the pad while you're lining up a putt.
The course plays through dense equatorial vegetation, and the persistent heat and humidity mean the fairways stay lush year-round — but they also demand respect for the pace of play and the physicality of walking in true tropical conditions. Wildlife is a constant presence; the region's biodiversity rivals anywhere on the continent.
Golf in French Guiana is a small, tight-knit scene, and this club serves a mix of locals, space-industry expats, and the occasional adventurous visitor drawn more by curiosity than any tournament pedigree. That makes for a genuinely relaxed, distinctive atmosphere that no ranking can capture.
