Tyrrells Wood

Tyrrells Wood Golf Club sits on the greensand ridge above Leatherhead in Surrey, occupying a stretch of mature woodland that has shaped the club's identity since it opened in 1924. The course was designed by J.F. Abercromby, one of the more distinctive voices in early 20th-century British golf architecture, whose work favored natural ground movement and a respect for existing terrain over artificial shaping. The result is a layout that winds through oak and silver birch, where the trees are very much in play and wayward driving is punished without mercy.

Surrey's golfing pedigree needs little introduction — the county is home to some of the finest inland courses in England — and Tyrrells Wood holds its own in distinguished company. The woodland setting means conditions can be soft underfoot in winter but the canopy provides shelter, and the course tends to play firm and fast through the summer months.

This is a members' club with genuine character, one where the course does the talking and the round rewards careful thinking over raw power.
