Few courses in Britain place you quite so directly in the path of the Atlantic. Newport Links occupies the Pembrokeshire coast of west Wales, a stretch of landscape so dramatically exposed — dunes, headlands, the Preseli Hills looming inland — that the golf almost feels secondary to simply being there. Almost.
This is links golf in its most literal sense: land genuinely reclaimed from the sea's edge, where the turf is tight, the bounces unpredictable, and the wind rarely takes a day off. Pembrokeshire's coastline carries National Park status for good reason, and Newport's setting within it means the views across Cardigan Bay are a persistent distraction from the business of scoring. The par of 70 hints at a layout that asks for precision and course management rather than raw power — links golf that rewards the bump-and-run and punishes the aerial game.
Newport itself is a small, characterful town with a genuine sense of place, well off the major tourist circuits. The club draws a loyal local membership and visitors who make the journey specifically for this kind of unhurried, wind-battered, wholly authentic experience.
