Slick Rock is the original course at Horseshoe Bay Resort, which has grown into one of Texas Hill Country's most celebrated golf destinations since its founding in the early 1970s. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., the layout carries all the hallmarks of his exacting style — strategic bunkering, demanding approach angles, and a rhythm that rewards patience and precision over raw power. The course takes its name from the smooth limestone outcroppings that define so much of the Hill Country's character, and that geology is very much a playing feature here.
Horseshoe Bay sits on the shores of Lake LBJ, and the landscape shifts between open water views, cedar and live oak corridors, and those exposed limestone shelves that can send an errant shot in genuinely unpredictable directions. The Hill Country's terrain gives the routing natural elevation changes and visual drama that flat-state Texas courses simply cannot replicate.
As a resort layout, Slick Rock welcomes visiting players alongside resort guests, making it an accessible entry point into a property that has hosted significant amateur and professional events over the decades.
