Few golf courses in Australia sit within an active naval base, but Hmas Creswell does exactly that — occupying the grounds of the Royal Australian Navy's officer training establishment on the northern shore of Jervis Bay. The course carries the particular character of a military facility layout: functional, unpretentious, and shaped around the constraints of its surroundings rather than built to impress. Access is restricted by the base's security requirements, making this one of the more unusual rounds available on the New South Wales South Coast.
Jervis Bay itself is one of the most striking stretches of coastline in the country, known for its white-quartz beaches, crystal water, and the Booderee National Park that wraps around much of its southern shore. The landscape is coastal heath and spotted gum woodland, and the light here — especially in the late afternoon — has a particular clarity that the South Coast does well.
At par 65, the course plays as a shorter layout, and the emphasis is on placement and control over power. It would suit a golfer looking for something genuinely off the beaten track rather than a championship test.
