Few golf settings in Texas carry the weight of history that surrounds this course. Fort Clark was established as a U.S. Army post in 1852, guarding the frontier along Las Moras Creek, and the grounds here retain that layered sense of a place that has seen a great deal of American life pass through. The fort's stone buildings and centuries-old live oaks still stand across the property, now part of a private membership community and resort, and that backdrop gives a round here a character no purely modern development could manufacture.
Brackettville sits in Kinney County in the rugged Texas borderlands, where the Hill Country begins dissolving into the semi-arid Chihuahuan Desert. The landscape is dry and open, with caliche soil, mesquite, cedar, and the same hardy vegetation that made this frontier so difficult to tame. Summers are punishing and hot; winters mild and clear.
