Woodbrook Golf Club carries one of the more storied names in Irish golf. Founded in 1927 and set along the Irish Sea coastline just south of Dublin in County Wicklow, the club built its reputation as a genuine championship venue — it hosted the Carroll's Irish Open on multiple occasions during the 1970s and 1980s, when the tournament drew the cream of European tour professionals to its fairways. That heritage still hangs over the place in the best possible way.
The course occupies a stretch of ground between the railway line and the sea, which shapes both its character and its exposure. Wind off the Irish Sea is a constant factor and a reliable equalizer — a card that looks manageable on a calm morning can become a serious test by afternoon. The layout blends parkland and links-influenced terrain, and the views toward Bray Head and out across the water give it a setting that few courses within commuting distance of a capital city can match.
Bray itself is a lively Victorian seaside town at the edge of the Wicklow Mountains, and the broader County Wicklow golf scene is genuinely competitive — Druids Glen and the European Club are neighbors in spirit if not in miles. Woodbrook holds its own in that company through history rather than hype.
