Berwick-upon-Tweed sits on England's northernmost edge, so close to the Scottish border that the town itself has changed hands between the two kingdoms more times than historians care to count. The golf club here — formally known as Berwick-upon-Tweed (Goswick) Golf Club — occupies the Goswick links, a stretch of duneland hugging the Northumberland coast that earns its place among the genuinely undersung links experiences in Great Britain. The ground is classic linksland: firm, rumpled turf, marram grass rough, and the kind of sea breeze that turns a comfortable iron into a guessing game.
The course plays along the coast between Berwick and Bamburgh, with views across to the Farne Islands and, on clear days, the outline of Holy Island. That setting alone justifies a visit, but the golf backs it up — natural dune contours create interesting lies and blind spots that reward local knowledge.
For visitors touring the great links of northeast England and southeast Scotland, Goswick is a logical and rewarding stop between Dunbar to the north and Seaton Carew further south, and it tends to be far less crowded than its coastal neighbors.
