St. Marys sits in the Elk County highlands of northcentral Pennsylvania, a working-class industrial town best known for its powdered metal manufacturing — and for the elk herd that roams the surrounding Allegheny Plateau. The landscape here is dense second-growth forest, rolling ridges, and creek hollows, the kind of terrain that gives a golf course real topographic personality without any architect having to manufacture drama.
Bavarian Hills reflects the character of its community: straightforward, unpretentious, and genuinely local. The name nods to the heavy German Catholic heritage that shaped St. Marys when immigrant settlers arrived in the mid-1800s, and that cultural identity still runs through the town today.
