Few courses in southeastern Pennsylvania announce themselves quite like Wyncote. Designed by Brian Ault and opened in 1994, this semi-private layout occupies a rolling stretch of Chester County farmland that feels genuinely removed from the suburban sprawl encroaching on so much of the region. Ault built the course around the natural contours of the land, routing holes through mature hardwoods and across open meadows, giving it a variety that keeps the round interesting from first tee to last green. The result earned Wyncote consistent recognition among Pennsylvania's better public-access courses through the late 1990s and 2000s.
Chester County itself has a long relationship with golf — it sits at the heart of one of the densest concentrations of quality courses anywhere in the mid-Atlantic — and Wyncote fits comfortably into that tradition without pretense. Oxford is a small agricultural town near the Maryland border, and the rural character of that corner of the county comes through in the layout.
For a semi-private facility, the course plays with genuine ambition: firm, fast conditions reward shot-shaping, and the back nine in particular demands patience and course management over raw power.
