Few resort courses in New England can claim the kind of setting Basin Harbor Club commands — a working lakeside resort on the eastern shore of Lake Champlain, where the Adirondacks rise across the water to the west and the Green Mountains frame the horizon to the east. The club is part of a family-owned property that dates back to the 1880s, and the golf course carries that same unhurried, generations-deep character. This is not a layout built to impress on paper; it's built to be enjoyed repeatedly, season after season.
The course plays through open meadows and mature trees typical of Vermont's Champlain Valley, where the terrain is flatter and more agricultural than the mountain courses further east in the state. The region's short summer season — roughly May through October — concentrates the experience, and the light here in the long evenings of July and August is genuinely hard to beat.
As a resort course tied to a historic lakeside inn, Basin Harbor offers golf as part of something larger: a place where families return for decades and the game feels like a natural extension of the landscape rather than the main attraction.
