Few Atlantic resort towns in France have reinvented themselves as thoroughly as Lacanau. Once purely a surf destination straddling a vast freshwater lake and the ocean, it has quietly built a credible golf identity on the back of its pine-forest landscape — and Golf du Baganais is the course at the center of that story.
The course winds through the flat, sandy terrain of the Landes de Gascogne, the vast planted pine forest that blankets much of coastal Gironde. That setting is both the course's defining aesthetic and its strategic engine: fairways carve corridors through dense stands of maritime pine, making accuracy off the tee considerably more important than raw distance. The forest absorbs errant shots in ways that quickly inflate a scorecard, so even casual rounds here carry a quiet tension.
Lacanau sits roughly 45 kilometers northwest of Bordeaux, and Golf du Baganais benefits from that proximity — drawing weekend golfers from the city who pair a round with the Atlantic coast's beaches or the broader Médoc wine country nearby.
