Few golf courses can claim a design collaboration between 2 of the game's all-time greats, but King & Bear at World Golf Village earns that distinction as the only course jointly designed by Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus. Opened in 2000, the layout was conceived as a centerpiece for the World Golf Hall of Fame campus in St. Augustine — a fitting home given that both men are enshrined there. The course blends Palmer's preference for strategic risk-reward and Nicklaus's demand for precision, resulting in a design that rewards bold play in some places and punishes it severely in others.
St. Augustine itself sets a rich stage — the oldest city in the United States, draped in Spanish colonial history and flanked by marshlands, live oaks, and the kind of subtropical humidity that makes every round feel like an earned accomplishment. The surrounding landscape weaves naturally through the routing, with water hazards and native vegetation shaping nearly every decision.
For visiting golfers, King & Bear carries the appeal of a bucket-list tick: a rare chance to play ground that bears the fingerprints of both Palmer and Nicklaus at once.
