Few private clubs in New England carry the mystique of Nantucket Golf Club. Designed by Rees Jones and opened in 1999, it was built on the eastern end of the island near the village of Siasconset, occupying a landscape of open heathland, native grasses, and sweeping Atlantic sky that feels closer to the Scottish coastline than coastal Massachusetts. Jones leaned into that setting deliberately, crafting a layout that rewards strategic play over raw power — fairways tumble through rolling terrain, and the wind off the ocean is a constant, invisible hazard that can make any hole play two or three clubs differently from one day to the next.
The club has consistently ranked among the finest private courses in Massachusetts and draws comparisons to the great heathland and links-influenced designs of the Northeast. Access is tightly restricted, which only deepens its reputation among those who follow serious American golf.
Nantucket itself sets the stage. The island's compressed, car-optional village culture means Siasconset feels genuinely removed from the mainland — and a round here carries that same sense of real escape.
