Morgan sits on a dramatic bend in the Murray River about 165 kilometres northeast of Adelaide, a former river-port town whose 19th-century prosperity is still visible in its bluestone buildings and heritage streetscapes. The surrounding country is quintessential outback-fringe South Australia — wide, flat, and sun-baked, with native mallee scrub pressing in at the edges and the Murray's red cliffs providing an unlikely but striking backdrop. It is not a part of Australia that attracts golf tourists in any volume, which means a round here is genuinely local and unhurried.
Morgan-Cadell Golf Club serves a small rural community, and courses like this one are the backbone of Australian country golf — maintained by members who do much of the work themselves, with a social culture that tends to be warm and unpretentious.
