Picatinny Golf Club occupies one of the more unusual addresses in American golf — sitting on the grounds of Picatinny Arsenal, the U.S. Army's historic weapons research and manufacturing installation in the Morris County highlands of northwestern New Jersey. Access to the club has traditionally been tied to military and Department of Defense personnel, giving it a close-knit, community feel that most civilian courses rarely achieve. It's a members' world unto itself, bounded by federal land and the rugged Kittatinny Ridge landscape that defines this corner of the state.
The surrounding terrain is genuinely striking. Morris County sits at elevation, with the forested ridgelines of the Highlands region shaping the skyline in every direction. That topography tends to mean varied, rolling ground — the kind that produces natural shot-shaping demands and interesting lies rather than a flat, manufactured feel.
For those with access, playing Picatinny means stepping into a slice of military heritage few golfers ever encounter. The course exists largely apart from New Jersey's dense roster of public and private layouts, which only adds to its singular character.
