Few golf courses in France enjoy a backdrop quite like this one. Golf de Grenoble Charmeil sits on the flatlands of the Isère valley, with the Vercors massif and the Chartreuse and Belledonne ranges forming an almost theatrical wall of mountains on every horizon. The course itself occupies a wide, open agricultural plain northwest of Grenoble, which gives it a parkland-meets-meadowland character — generous fairways, relatively open sightlines, and a calm that contrasts sharply with the rugged terrain surrounding it. It is one of the primary clubs serving the greater Grenoble metropolitan area, a city with a serious sporting culture rooted in the Alps.
The layout rewards accuracy over power, threading through mature trees and water features that introduce genuine strategic decisions without punishing the average player unfairly. For visitors staying in Grenoble or passing through the Dauphiné region, it serves as an accessible and well-maintained option that doesn't require venturing far into mountain terrain.
Grenoble itself is an underrated destination for the golf traveler — a university city with excellent food, a gateway to some of the finest alpine scenery in Europe, and close enough to Lyon that combining the 2 makes for a compelling itinerary.
