Grand Valley Golf & Country Club sits on the rural fringe of Ariss, a small farming community in Wellington County just north of Guelph, and the Willows/Lakes combination routing is the private members' layout that has served this corner of southwestern Ontario for decades. Wellington County's gently rolling terrain — shaped by glacial activity and threaded with creek valleys — gives the land natural movement, and a course named partly for willows and partly for lakes suggests a design that leans into both the waterways and the tree-lined corridors typical of this region's best parkland tracks.
At par 70, the course plays shorter than a traditional championship test, which tends to shift the emphasis toward precision over power — members who know the routing well likely exploit that intimacy, while newcomers discover that familiarity matters more than raw distance here. Private clubs in this part of Ontario tend to cultivate a genuine community character, unhurried and rooted in the seasons.
Wellington County winters are real, which means the golf season is earned. When the course is in peak condition through summer and into the brilliant Ontario fall, it rewards those with access to it.
