Few resort destinations in Mexico have invested as seriously in golf infrastructure as Cancún, and Puerto Cancún Golf Club stands as one of the area's most ambitious expressions of that commitment. Designed by Tom Weiskopf and opened in 2009, the course winds through the Puerto Cancún master-planned community on the northwestern edge of the hotel zone, weaving between luxury residences and open water features with a layout that rewards strategic thinking over raw power. Weiskopf's signature preference for natural-looking hazards and generous but contoured greens is very much in evidence here.
The Caribbean setting brings its own challenges — persistent trade winds off the water can transform straightforward par 4s into genuine puzzles, and the heat and humidity demand more from your cardio and your concentration than the scorecard might suggest. Mangrove-lined edges and glimpses of the lagoon give the course a distinct tropical character that separates it from generic resort fare.
Puerto Cancún attracts a mix of destination golfers and a growing permanent residential membership, giving it a dual identity — relaxed enough for a vacation round, serious enough to reward return visits and genuine course management.
