Harrison sits at the heart of Clare County, a quiet slice of northern Lower Michigan where second-growth hardwoods and sandy glacial soils define the landscape. The area is better known for its snowmobile trails and small inland lakes than for championship golf, which makes Snow Snake's dual identity as a ski and golf operation entirely fitting — this is a place built around seasons, with the same terrain serving different pursuits across the calendar year.
A ski hill repurposed for golf means one thing above all else: elevation. In a part of Michigan that is otherwise gently rolling at best, Snow Snake works the contours of its ski terrain to create a layout with genuine topographical variety — the kind of changes in grade that force creative shotmaking and reward course management over raw power. Playing alongside and around the slopes gives the course a distinctive, slightly unconventional feel you won't find at a standard Michigan parkland track.
As a combined ski-and-golf resort, Snow Snake draws a casual, recreational crowd more than a competitive one. It's the kind of place where the same family returns in February on skis and again in July with a bag of clubs — a seasonal anchor for the community rather than a destination on the tournament circuit.
