Lakewood Golf Club occupies a distinctive place in New Orleans golf as one of the city's most established private clubs, a members' retreat that has long served as a gathering point for the city's serious golfers. The course has hosted significant regional and state-level amateur competition over the years, and its membership roster reflects the tight-knit nature of golf culture in southeast Louisiana — a community that takes its game seriously despite, or perhaps because of, the climatic challenges the Gulf Coast perpetually presents.
Playing golf in New Orleans means contending with the particular character of the Louisiana lowlands: lush, subtropical vegetation, humidity that thickens through the summer months, and terrain that is flat by necessity given the city's relationship with water and elevation. Courses here tend to reward placement and course management over raw power, and Lakewood is no exception to that regional tradition.
As a private club, Lakewood offers its members a proper retreat from the city's famous density and noise — a place where a Sunday round carries genuine social weight alongside the golf itself.
