Few Bergen County clubs carry the sense of settled permanence that River Vale Country Club does. Founded in the mid-20th century, the course occupies the gently rolling terrain of the Pascack Valley in northeastern New Jersey, where mature hardwoods frame nearly every hole and the Pascack Brook weaves through the property, introducing genuine water hazards that reward precision off the tee and into greens. The layout plays as a classic private members' club — unhurried, well-maintained, and genuinely tree-lined in the old suburban New Jersey tradition.
The surrounding area sits within easy reach of the George Washington Bridge, which means River Vale draws a membership that takes its golf seriously. Bergen County has one of the denser concentrations of private clubs in the state, so courses here tend to be well-kept and competitive in the quality they offer their members.
As a par 72, the course presents a full test across all four par 5s and par 3s, asking members to manage both the wooded corridors and water carry situations the Pascack Brook creates throughout the round.
