Bear Mountain Resort - Mountain Course

Bear Mountain Resort sits on the southern tip of Vancouver Island, in Langford — a fast-growing municipality just west of Victoria that has become one of British Columbia's more ambitious golf destinations. The Mountain Course is the more dramatic of the resort's 2 layouts, climbing through the rugged, forested terrain that gives Bear Mountain its name and its identity. Designed by Jack Nicklaus and his son Gary Nicklaus and opened in 2007, it was built to put Victoria on the destination-golf map, and for a stretch it genuinely did — hosting events on the PGA Tour Canada circuit and drawing visitors who might otherwise have looked past the island entirely.

The design leans hard into elevation change. Fairways tumble and rise through stands of Douglas fir and Garry oak, and the views across the Langford valley reward patience on the longer climbs. It plays considerably differently depending on which set of tees you choose.

Victoria's mild, maritime climate means the course is playable well into the shoulder seasons — an advantage on an island where outdoor life rarely fully stops. The resort model means walking-in visitors are welcome, and the Mountain Course remains the marquee experience Bear Mountain is built around.
