Few courses wear their heathland character quite as honestly as Farnham Golf Club. Laid out on the sandy, birch-and-heather terrain that defines Surrey golf at its best, the course sits within a county that has produced some of the finest inland layouts in Britain — Sunningdale, Walton Heath, Wentworth among the neighbours in spirit if not always in distance. Farnham occupies its own quieter corner of that tradition, a members' club with the unhurried feel of a place that has been part of the local golf fabric for generations.
The Surrey heathland setting does much of the design work: firm, fast-draining turf that rewards the running game, holes framed by heather and bracken that punish anything too wayward, and a landscape that shifts attractively with the seasons. Autumn, when the heather is fading and the birches turn, makes for particularly fine golf.
For visitors, this is the kind of course that rewards those who seek out real, rooted club golf over resort spectacle — honest, atmospheric, and genuinely of its place.
