Few private clubs in the American Midwest carry a pedigree quite like Wequetonsing Golf Club. Founded in the late 19th century as part of the Wequetonsing Association — one of Michigan's oldest and most storied summer resort communities — the club has long served as the social and recreational heart of Harbor Springs' seasonal colony. The membership traces its roots to the same Victorian-era families who built the distinctive cottages lining the bluffs above Little Traverse Bay, and that sense of continuity and quiet tradition still defines the place today.
The course itself reflects an older, unhurried philosophy of golf design, shaped by a landscape of northern hardwoods, gentle elevation changes, and the kind of turf conditions that the cool Lake Michigan climate does particularly well. It is not a brutal examination of length but rather a course that rewards accuracy, local knowledge, and patience — the hallmarks of golf played among friends who have walked the same fairways for generations.
Harbor Springs sits at the northern tip of lower Michigan, a region that draws summer visitors for its clear water, bluff scenery, and refined small-town atmosphere. For those fortunate enough to have access, Wequetonsing offers golf that feels genuinely rooted in its place rather than imposed upon it.
