El Puerto de Santa María sits at the mouth of the Guadalquivir river basin on the Bay of Cádiz, one of Andalusia's most storied corners — sherry country, Atlantic light, and a golf scene that punches well above its tourist profile. Golf El Puerto occupies this coastal lowland setting, where the terrain is characteristically flat and open, the vegetation runs to pine and scrub typical of the Atlantic-facing Costa de la Luz, and the prevailing poniente and levante winds off the bay can dramatically alter how any given hole plays from one day to the next.
The course is a mature, members-oriented layout that serves the local community rather than chasing resort-destination status. That orientation tends to produce courses with genuine personality — maintained for real golfers who play them repeatedly, with subtleties that reward local knowledge over raw power.
The surrounding region is exceptional for golf travel. Jerez, Sanlúcar, and the broader Cádiz province offer a cluster of courses alongside world-class culture, cuisine, and one of Spain's most distinct landscapes. Golf El Puerto fits naturally into any itinerary built around the western Andalusia coast.
