Golf Country Club Cannes-Mougins

Few clubs on the Côte d'Azur carry the pedigree of Cannes-Mougins. Designed by Peter Alliss and Dave Thomas and opened in 1979, the course occupies the wooded hillsides above Mougins, a medieval village perched inland from Cannes that has long attracted artists, chefs, and the quietly wealthy. The layout winds through stands of umbrella pine and cork oak, with the Esterel hills providing a backdrop that reminds you, constantly, that you are somewhere genuinely special. It has hosted the Cannes Open and the Volvo Masters on the European Tour, which tells you something about the seriousness of the test and the quality of the conditioning.

Alliss and Thomas shaped a course that rewards intelligent play over raw power — fairways that bend through the trees, approach angles that punish the greedy, and greens with enough movement to make mid-irons an adventure. The parkland feel is distinctly Mediterranean rather than northern European.

As a private members' club, Cannes-Mougins is not easily accessed by visiting golfers without an introduction or reciprocal arrangement. That exclusivity is part of the point — this is a club that has always valued discretion alongside its very considerable golfing merit.
