Silecroft

Few courses in England place you quite so directly in the landscape as Silecroft, a links-style layout on the Cumbrian coast where the Irish Sea sits at the edge of play and the peaks of the Lake District fill the skyline to the northeast. The course occupies a narrow strip of coastal ground near the small town of Millom, in the southwestern corner of what is now Cumberland — remote country, thinly populated, and all the better for it. Black Combe, the great rounded fell that dominates the local horizon, feels close enough to touch on a clear day.

A par of 69 signals a course that rewards accuracy and course management over raw distance. The seaside setting means wind is rarely absent, and the same hole can play entirely differently depending on the direction it's blowing off the water.
