Peterculter Golf Club sits in the village of the same name on the western edge of Aberdeen, where the River Dee cuts through the Aberdeenshire countryside before the city proper takes over. The club has been part of this community for well over a century, a genuine locals' course shaped by the rolling terrain of the Dee valley rather than any grand design ambition.
The layout works across undulating ground typical of northeast Scotland — tight, tree-lined in places, and exposed enough to the elements that the wind off the hills becomes a legitimate factor in how you approach the card. The par 71 suggests a course that doesn't pad itself with length, rewarding accuracy and course management over raw power. That kind of honest, no-frills test is very much in keeping with the Scottish municipal and members' club tradition.
Aberdeen has a deep and unpretentious golf culture, and Peterculter reflects it well. This is the sort of club where local knowledge counts, visitors are welcomed without fuss, and the game is taken seriously without taking itself too seriously.
