Tom Fazio designed Hasentree Club, which opened in 2007 as the centerpiece of a large residential community in Wake Forest — and from the start it carried serious credentials. Fazio routed the course through rolling Piedmont terrain, working with mature hardwoods, natural wetlands, and significant elevation change to produce a layout that feels more organically discovered than imposed on the land. It earned consistent recognition among North Carolina's top private courses, and the membership experience reflects that ambition: measured, unhurried, and grounded in the kind of Southern golf culture that values tradition without being stiff about it.
Wake Forest sits just north of Raleigh in the Research Triangle, a region that has quietly become one of the more competitive golf markets in the Southeast. The area's red clay soil, Piedmont hardwoods, and four genuine seasons give courses here a distinct character — firm and fast in summer, brilliant in fall color, surprisingly playable through much of winter.
As a private club, Hasentree rewards its members with a course that demands real shot-making rather than just power. The par-71 routing keeps players engaged and honest without ever feeling punitive, which is a Fazio trademark.
