Tamamura Golf Course sits in Tamamura-machi, a small town in Sawa District tucked into the Kanto Plain of Gunma Prefecture, roughly midway between Maebashi and Takasaki. This part of central Gunma is flat agricultural country — rice paddies, vegetable fields, and greenhouse farming — and a course here plays across that open, low-lying terrain where the sky feels enormous and the Akagi, Haruna, and Myogi mountains form a distinctive backdrop to the west and north. Gunma's interior climate means genuine seasons: cold, often windy winters with dry air sweeping down from the mountains, and hot, humid summers that make early morning rounds a genuine pleasure.
The Kanto Plain hosts a remarkable density of golf facilities, and a club like Tamamura-machi represents the kind of accessible, community-facing course that has long served everyday golfers in provincial Japan — affordable rounds for working players rather than the high-membership private clubs of central Tokyo's orbit.
Gunma itself has a lively golf culture, with a range of courses spread across its volcanic highlands and river valleys. Playing here gives a visitor a grounded, local experience of Japanese golf well away from resort fanfare.
