Woodpark Golf Course sits in the heart of County Clare, one of Ireland's most storied golfing counties, on the western shore of Lough Derg — the largest lake on the River Shannon. The townland of Inishcaltra takes its name from the nearby island of the same name, a remarkable early Christian monastic site dating back to the 6th century, and that deep sense of history permeates the landscape here. This is quiet, rural Clare: green pastures rolling down to still water, the Slieve Aughty Mountains edging the horizon to the south, and a pace of life that feels genuinely unhurried.
Woodpark is a modest, community-scale course — the kind of layout that serves local members and visiting golfers looking for an honest round without pretension. Courses like this are the backbone of Irish golf, affordable and welcoming in a way that the famous links resorts rarely replicate.
County Clare already draws golfers for Lahinch to the west, but the quieter inland game around Lough Derg offers something different: pastoral rather than dramatic, and all the more personal for it.
