Few places in British Columbia frame a round of golf quite like the Skeena Valley. Terrace sits in the Coast Mountains of northwestern BC, where the Skeena River carves through a corridor of old-growth forest, and the surrounding peaks dominate the skyline in every direction. It's a working logging and fishing town well off the standard golf trail, which gives Skeena Valley the feel of a genuine local institution — a club that exists for the community around it, not for destination tourism.
The par 73 suggests a layout that leans on its natural terrain rather than following modern design conventions, likely incorporating a par 5 or an extra par 3 that the land demanded. Courses in this part of the province tend to play through tall conifers with tight, tree-lined corridors, and the wet Coast Mountain climate keeps conditions lush through much of the season.
Getting to Terrace means making a deliberate choice to be here, and that filters the experience. The golfers you'll encounter are regulars who know every bounce and break, and the backdrop — river valley, mountain ridgelines, dense rainforest — is legitimately dramatic by any standard.
