Golf along the northern shore of the Île Jésus corridor has its own unhurried character, and Des Braves fits comfortably into that tradition. Terrebonne sits on the north bank of the Rivière des Mille Îles, just beyond Montreal's metropolitan fringe — close enough to draw a steady city crowd, far enough to feel like a genuine getaway. The region's flat alluvial terrain and hardwood-lined fairways give courses here a distinctly Laurentian-lowland feel, with the kind of wide-open summer skies that make every round feel a little longer and looser than it does back in the city.
As a public 18-hole layout in a community that takes its golf seriously, Des Braves functions as a true local course — the kind of place where members of the same foursome have been playing together for decades, and where the back nine is argued about over coffee just as often as it's played.
Quebec's golf season runs tight — roughly May through October — so when the weather cooperates, rounds here carry a certain urgency and appreciation that courses in milder climates rarely inspire.
