Injune sits deep in Queensland's central-western interior, a small outback town on the Carnarvon Highway roughly 600 kilometres northwest of Brisbane. This is serious scrub country — mulga, eucalyptus, red earth — where the sky feels enormous and the pace of life has little in common with the coast. Golf out here is a community institution rather than a leisure industry, and the Injune Golf Club reflects that character entirely.
As with many clubs across the Queensland outback, the course almost certainly plays on sand scrapes rather than grass greens, a practical adaptation to the arid climate that gives outback golf its own distinct texture and etiquette. Local knowledge matters — the lie of the land, the wind off the plains, the firmness of the fairways after weeks without rain — in ways that a visiting golfer accustomed to manicured parkland will quickly notice and come to appreciate.
An 18-hole layout in a town this size is a genuine community achievement, and the club will be the social heart of the district. Expect a warm welcome, minimal pretension, and golf that is more about honest challenge and good company than anything else.
