Dooks Golf Club

Few links courses in Ireland wear their antiquity as naturally as Dooks. Founded in 1889 by British Army officers stationed in Kerry, it is one of the oldest clubs in the province of Munster, and its course along the southern shore of Dingle Bay has the feel of a place that evolved rather than was designed — shaped over generations by wind, hand, and modest amendment rather than any single architectural vision. The terrain is classic duneland: tumbling, unpredictable, full of blind shots and abrupt changes in elevation that no yardage figure can properly prepare you for.

What Dooks offers that grander neighbours cannot is a certain wildness and honesty. The views across Dingle Bay toward the MacGillycuddy's Reeks are extraordinary, but the course never leans on them as a substitute for good golf. The routing earns its keep hole by hole.

Glenbeigh itself is a quiet village on the Ring of Kerry, and the drive in — past the Rossbeigh strand and its dunes — sets the mood before you even pull on a glove.
