Few settings in European golf match what you get standing on the fairways at Golf Club Thunersee. The course sits in the Bernese Oberland of Switzerland, with the Alps rising dramatically to the south and Lake Thun — one of the country's most celebrated glacier-fed lakes — forming the immediate backdrop. This is a landscape that genuinely competes with the golf, and that's saying something, because the course itself is a genuinely serious test laid across rolling terrain that rewards precise ball-striking and intelligent course management.
Thun is a well-preserved medieval town anchored by its 12th-century castle, and the surrounding canton of Bern draws visitors as much for outdoor recreation as for anything else. Golf here sits comfortably alongside sailing, hiking, and skiing, giving the club a relaxed but purposeful atmosphere typical of established Swiss golf societies.
The course plays through a mix of open meadows and tree-lined corridors, where the alpine light and the ever-present mountain panorama make even a difficult round feel like something worth repeating.
