Goose Pond Plantation sits on the shores of Guntersville Lake in northeastern Alabama, one of the Tennessee Valley Authority's great impoundments of the Tennessee River. The lake stretches across roughly 69,000 acres, and its presence shapes everything about this course — the views, the breezes off the water, and the sense of open sky that defines a round here. Scottsboro itself is a small town with a deep connection to the reservoir, drawing anglers, boaters, and now golfers to its banks.
The course is operated as part of a state-owned recreational facility, a tradition Alabama has maintained at several of its most scenic public properties. That heritage means the layout is accessible to everyday players, not reserved for a private membership — a genuine public golf experience in a setting that could easily command a premium.
Northeastern Alabama's climate allows for a long golf season, with Bermuda fairways browning only briefly in the coldest weeks. The surrounding landscape — wooded ridges, open water, and the Appalachian foothills to the east — gives the property a character that the scorecard simply cannot capture.
