Bella Vista is a planned retirement and resort community tucked into the Ozark highlands of northwest Arkansas, developed by the Cooper Corporation beginning in the 1960s. The area built its identity around outdoor recreation, and golf became central to that vision — the community eventually grew to operate multiple courses across its rolling, wooded terrain. The Highlands Golf Course is one of those member-accessible layouts, part of a network that gives Bella Vista Property Owners Association members access to golf woven directly into the fabric of daily life here.
Northwest Arkansas has emerged over the past two decades as one of the more quietly dynamic regions in the country, fueled by the Walmart and Tyson Foods corporate presence in nearby Bentonville and Fayetteville. The golf scene has benefited from that prosperity, with the broader region attracting serious investment in recreational infrastructure.
A course named Highlands in this setting almost certainly earns the label honestly. The Ozark topography delivers genuine elevation change, hardwood forest, and the kind of rugged, scenic character that makes northwest Arkansas golf feel distinct from the flatter stretches of the state to the south.
