La Florida occupies a stretch of the Sabana de Bogotá, the high plateau that rings Colombia's capital and sits at roughly 2,600 meters above sea level. That altitude changes the game in a fundamental way: the thin air carries the ball noticeably farther than sea level, so club selection becomes an immediate lesson for visiting golfers. The savanna landscape is broad and open, framed by the distant silhouette of the Eastern Andes, and the cool, often overcast climate that defines Bogotá's surroundings means conditions here feel more like temperate highland golf than anything tropical.
Funza itself sits just west of Bogotá proper, part of the municipal belt that has grown significantly as the capital has expanded. The club serves Colombia's established golfing community in this corridor, functioning as a traditional private members' club in a country where the sport has long carried a strong social dimension tied to the highland capital's professional class.
Golf on the Sabana rewards players who learn to read the plateau's subtle winds and adjust for the altitude — what looks like a straightforward approach from the fairway often plays a full club or 2 shorter than instinct suggests.
